Write down some ideas to work with our Government on Land Use
We talked a bit about this in our last meeting. Greg had some good points about implementing a wheeling season's pass to our OHV areas. Throw down some ideas on how we can improve the situation in our backyards regarding our trail closures and how we can prevent people from destroying the land.

It can't hurt to put more and more pressure on them but ...
I think that the government might already be getting the message.

As part of the blueprint, Ady said the government is looking to modernize facilities, work on a new camp-ground reservation system and build more off-highway vehicle trails.

I wonder if we'd be able to get into helping with the planning of the trails!

This was my post on the article:
As a member and founder of Calgary Toyota 4WD Association I applaud the government for helping create trails. We are very serious about abiding by the Tread Lightly! principals and in now way condone mud bogging or tearing up the lands. This a good step in the right direction and even imploring a season's pass for responsible off-roaders would inhibit "weekend/maylong warriors" to wreck the OHV parks. For us who are passionate about exploring our lands by use of vehicle, we wouldn't mind paying for such a privilege. It would be akin to going to a ski hill and purchasing a season's pass and if you're not abiding by the rules, that pass can be revoked without question. These are things that we do in our Association when we off-road: - Air down tires to increase footprint and reduce impact on the soil - Don't spin the tires in wet or soft soil - Winch over an obstacle if stuck - Avoid wet or soft soil when possible - Stay away from stream crossings if possible - Cross all streams slowly to avoid stirring up the soil. - Ensure our vehicles are in tip top shape. More information can be had a treadlightly.org We aim to work with the government in the future to help protect the lands so we can keep exploring them. Yeah definitely great material there! Soon we're gonna get more serious about these issues and create a little team to work with the other associations and the government.
